What Are GI Flanges?

Galvanized Iron (GI) flanges are carbon steel flanges coated with a protective zinc layer through the galvanizing process. The zinc coating provides superior corrosion resistance compared to uncoated steel, making GI flanges the standard choice for water supply systems, irrigation pipework, fire protection networks and general industrial piping applications where long-term durability and resistance to moisture and corrosion are required.

GI flanges connect pipes, valves, pumps and other pipework components at joint points, enabling easy access for maintenance, inspection and future modifications without cutting the pipeline.

Our GI Flange Range

We supply the following GI flange types across all standard pressure ratings and pipe sizes:

Slip-On Flanges

Slide over the pipe end and are fillet-welded in position. The most commonly used flange type for general pipework applications.

Blind Flanges

Used to close and seal the open end of a pipeline, nozzle or vessel. Standard for pressure testing and for permanently blanking redundant pipeline ends.

Screwed and Threaded Flanges

Connect to threaded pipe ends without welding. Used in smaller diameter pipework and in situations where welding is not practical on site.

Socket Weld Flanges

The pipe end is inserted into the flange socket and fillet-welded from the outside. Used in small-bore high-pressure pipework applications.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What does GI stand for in GI flanges?

GI stands for galvanized iron. GI flanges are carbon steel flanges coated with zinc through hot-dip or electro-galvanizing to provide corrosion resistance.

2. What is the difference between a GI flange and a stainless steel flange?

GI flanges are carbon steel with a zinc coating, suitable for general water and utility pipework at a lower cost. Stainless steel flanges offer higher corrosion resistance and are used in chemical, food-grade and marine environments.

3. What pressure ratings are available for GI flanges?

We supply GI flanges in standard ANSI pressure ratings, including Class 150, Class 300 and Class 600, as well as PN10 and PN16 to DIN standards. Contact our team to confirm availability for your required rating.

4. Do you supply GI flanges in Oman and Saudi Arabia?

Yes. We supply GI flanges from our Dubai stock to project sites across the UAE, Oman, Saudi Arabia and Bahrain. Contact us at +971 4 269 3863 for pricing and delivery timelines.

5. What sizes of GI flanges do you stock?

We stock GI flanges in standard sizes from half an inch to 24 inches. Contact our team for availability on larger or nonstandard sizes.

6. Are GI flanges suitable for water supply pipelines?

Yes. GI flanges are widely used on potable water supply and distribution pipelines, firefighting networks and irrigation systems due to their corrosion resistance and durability.

7. Can GI flanges be used in oil and gas applications?

GI flanges are used in utility and non-process pipework on oil and gas sites. For process piping carrying hydrocarbons, carbon steel or stainless steel flanges are typically specified. Confirm the correct flange material with your project engineer.

8. Do you provide material test certificates for GI flanges?

Yes. Material test certificates are available on request for all GI flanges we supply, formatted for inclusion in project quality documentation.

9. What is the difference between a slip-on flange and a socket weld flange?

A slip-on flange slides over the outside of the pipe and is welded in place. A socket weld flange has a recessed socket bore and the pipe is inserted into it before welding. Socket weld flanges are used in smaller-diameter, higher-pressure applications.

10. How quickly can you deliver GI flanges to the site?

For stocked sizes and types, we dispatch within 24 to 48 hours from our Dubai warehouse. Delivery to UAE sites is typically the same day or next day. Delivery to Muscat, Riyadh and Jeddah is two to four working days by road freight.
